How to include a PDF in a website.

A pdf is like any other file. Your site visitors will need a pdf reader installed, like Acrobat Reader.

Method 1
In WP X2.......

Create a text frame with appropriate text.  Highlight the text.

Right click > Hyperlink > FILES, then Browse to the pdf or other file you want to include in your site.  Click OK.

The pdf or other file will be uploaded along with your website.

Or insert an image and place a hotspot over it.  Then, do the same right click dance as above.

In earlier versions of Web Plus and also Page Plus

Create a text frame with appropriate text.  Highlight the text.

Right click > Hyperlink > A FILE on my Hard Drive, then Browse to the pdf or other file you want to include in your site.  Click OK.

The pdf or other file will be uploaded along with your website.

Or insert an image and place a hotspot over it.  Then, do the same right click dance as above.

Method 2
Sometimes pdfs are large and undully bloat the wpp file, making uploads take longer.

Sometimes the pdfs are on another site.

Create a subdirectory by first creating a new Account in File > Publish Site.  Then go to File s> Publish Site > Maintain Site and upload the pdfs or other files into that subdirectory.

Once done, go to Hyperlink as above but select in WP X2 and other versions, Internet site.  Then, enter the full url of the pdf and its subdirectory.

And, Martin said.... For WP X2.

You can use WP's File Manager to create folders and choose which folder your files will be published into.

Full recipe for adding a link to a PDF (or indeed any file) in a specific folder:

- Type the text to act as the link
- Select the text and Ctrl-K to open the hyperlink dialog
- Click "File" in the list at the left
- In the Hyperlink Information panel, browse to and select the PDF on your system
- Select Embed File into site if you wish (I prefer not)
- Specify other hyperlink settings as necessary, then click OK
- Go to Tools -> Site Manager -> File Manager
- You will see WP has added your linked PDF in the file list as one that must be uploaded
- Click the "New Folder" button
- Name the new folder as you wish (e.g. "downloads")
- Click on your PDF file and drag it over the new folder you just created.

Now when WP publishes or uploads your site it will create the folder and put the PDF in it, and the hyperlink will correctly point to the file in the folder.

And just to reiterate what's been said many times on this forum. WP will correctly associate files with your site when it publishes, regardless of whether they are linked or embedded.
